Less backlog of asylum requests
The number of asylum seekers arriving in Germany has slowed to pre-refugee crisis levels.
Nuremberg, Germany (dpa) - German authorities said Monday that they had reduced a backlog of asylum requests to 55,300 in February from a high of 333,800 the same month last year, the Interior Ministry said.
The ministry said that the migration authorities had cleared some 21,300 asylum bids in February, compared to the 29,200 they cleared in January.
In 2015, Germany took in nearly 1 million asylum seekers from countries including Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq.
