Frankfurt (dpa) - Tourism in Germany continues to grow. In September, hotels and guest houses registered 47.8 million overnight stays, a 1.3 per cent increase on the same month last year, according to initial results released by the Federal Statistical Office.

The number of overnight stays by people from abroad dropped slightly, but there was a significant increase in visits from within Germany.

Germany's tourism industry is heading for its tenth consecutive record year of total overnight stays.

In the nine months between January and September, the number of overnight stays reached 386.5 million - a 3.4 per cent increase on the same period last year.

The industry continues to profit from the popularity of tourism among Germans who visit other parts of the country.

The Federal Statistical Office bases its data on tourist accommodations offering more than ten beds.
