German Unity

The opening ofhe Wall in 1989 enabled reunification, which had been recorded as a constitutional goal of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1949 in the preamble to the Basic Law. However, in addition to the Peaceful Revolution it was primarily the willingness on the part of the victorious powers of World War II to pave the way for reunification through the Two-Plus-Four-Agreement, that was decisive in the dissolution of the status quo of the two German states.
