Berlin memorial to Sinti and Roma

A new monument in Berlin commemorates the Nazi crimes against Sinti and Roma.

A FOUNTAIN recently inaugurated in Berlin commemorates the 500,000 Sinti and Roma murdered during the National Socialist era. The monument is located close to the Reichstag building and was
designed by Israeli sculptor Dani Karavan. For the memorial site, Karavan designed a circular water
basin in the centre of which is a retractable stone
stele. Around the edge is Santino Spinelli’s poem Auschwitz, in both English and German.
