Jerusalem (dpa / d.de) – Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock met Israeli President Izchak Herzog in Jerusalem together with British Foreign Secretary David Cameron. The programme also included meetings with Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Talks centred on concerns regarding the conflict between Israel and Iran. Baerbock has been engaged in constant diplomatic activity since the weekend to prevent the conflict from escalating. This is Baerbock’s seventh visit to Israel since the terrorist attack by the Islamist group Hamas on 7 October 2023. Germany is coordinating its efforts very closely with the Israeli government and also with its partners in the EU, G7, NATO and the region. Prior to her departure, Baerbock received Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi for talks in Berlin.

The talks in Israel will also focus on the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza. Baerbock is calling for a massive increase in aid deliveries, while also insisting on the release of the hostages kidnapped by Hamas on 7 October.
