Germany meets UN requirements for development cooperation
Germany provided some 33.9 billion euros for poorer countries in 2023.
Berlin (d.de) – According to preliminary calculations by the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development), Germany allocated a total of 0.79 percent of its economic output to supporting poorer countries in 2023. In absolute figures the total was 33.9 billion euros. After 2016, 2020, 2021 and 2022, Germany therefore once again met the agreed United Nations target of providing at least 0.7 percent of gross national income for development cooperation. German Development Minister Svenja Schulze said: “The difficult global situation currently requires more international cooperation, not less. Taking decisive action now will pay off later.” In terms of its development investments, Germany ranks fourth worldwide relative to the size of its economy behind Norway (1.09 percent), Luxembourg (0.99) and Sweden (0.91). The largest donor in absolute figures is the USA.
