First German since Boris Becker: Zverev becomes world number one in tennis

A dream come true: Alexander Zverev becomes world number one in tennis. By reaching the quarter-finals at the tournament in Vienna, the 29-year-old has secured his place at the top of the world rankings. Next Monday, he will replace the Italian Jannik Sinner. Zverev is thus the 30th tennis player to top the ATP world rankings, which were introduced in 1973. He is also only the second German player to reach number one after Boris Becker. Becker was at the top just over 35 years ago. In the women’s game, only Steffi Graf and Angelique Kerber have achieved this in the WTA rankings so far.
