German Foreign Minister Wadephul: Without freedom of navigation, there is a risk of famine

Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul is meeting in Istanbul with his counterparts from seven European and regional partner states to discuss the security of international sea lanes and the defusing of regional conflicts. The focus is on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, attacks by the Houthi militia in the Red Sea, and Russian attacks on grain shipments in the Black Sea. “We can only overcome these massive challenges if we pull together beyond established frameworks,” Wadephul said at the start of the meeting.
