At the US Army’s European headquarters in Wiesbaden, 20,000 troops are practising how to respond to a crisis or war scenario.

Wiesbaden (dpa, d.de) – How would NATO respond to a threat on its eastern border? Around 20,000 Alliance troops are taking part in the “Avenger Triad” military exercise, practising how to respond quickly and effectively to a potential crisis anywhere from the North Cape to the Black Sea. One of the simulation exercise’s few command centres is located at the headquarters of US Army Europe and Africa in Wiesbaden. The exercise runs until 15 October.

At the heart of the operation in Wiesbaden is a command and control centre the size of a railway station concourse. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and communications systems, the centre receives information that is processed using artificial intelligence and assessed by specialists. Close technical and personnel links between US forces and those of other NATO countries are seen as essential. Up to 150 military personnel are currently working there around the clock.
