Wadephul demands a say for Europe ahead of Ukraine talks
Negotiations between Ukraine, Russia and the USA are scheduled to take place in the coming week in the United Arab Emirates.
Berlin (dpa) – Ahead of planned talks in Abu Dhabi, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has insisted that Europe should play a central role in negotiations on the future of Ukraine. Wadephul said that an unshakeable principle applied as far as the German government was concerned: “The future of Ukraine must not be decided without Ukraine. And the security of Europe must not be decided without Europe.”
First trilateral talks in months
This coming week, representatives from Kyiv, Moscow and Washington are scheduled to meet in Abu Dhabi for their first trilateral talks in months. The last time the USA, Russia and Ukraine took part in three-way negotiations was in Geneva in February 2026. Prior to that, there had been two rounds of talks in Abu Dhabi.
