Rent control for affordable housing
The Bundestag has passed legislation on rent control.
More and more people in Germany are moving into towns – and competing for less and less housing. In recent years this has led to sometimes large increases in rents. Average earners should continue to be able to afford accommodation in popular city districts in the future. That is why the Bundestag has passed legislation on rent control. With only a few exceptions, “rents in areas defined by state authorities may only exceed the customary comparable rent by a maximum of 10%,” explains Federal Justice Minister Heiko Maas.
