Joint mission for Mali
In the future, Germany and France will also work closer together on security issues.

TRIED-AND-TESTED PARTNERSHIP. As Germany and France aim to strengthen their collaboration, Foreign Ministers Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Laurent Fabius swiftly agreed a meeting in January 2014 to promote crisis prevention, among other things. Deeds soon followed: the Franco-German Defence and Security Council, headed by the Foreign Ministers and Federal Minister of Defence Ursula von der Leyen and her French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian, resolved to send part of the Franco-German Brigade to Mali. The brigade has already existed for 25 years. In a joint declaration, Germany and France confirmed their “common political, military, civil and humanitarian commitment to stabilizing Mali.”
