Germany reaffirms support for Ukraine
Germany’s involvement in repairing the energy infrastructure continues. The drone production cooperation has also been gaining importance.
Berlin/Munich (dpa) – Germany is contributing another 250 million euros for carrying out acute repair work on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. The German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy has issued a statement in which it explains that the aim is to ensure energy and heat supply for the population, despite Russia’s ongoing attacks.
“Energy supply in particular remains one of the frontlines in this war. This is why we are supporting Ukraine in protecting and reconstructing its energy infrastructure and are calling on all international partners to make further efforts,” Minister for Economic Affairs Katherina Reiche said. She added that the help for Ukraine was being provided in cooperation with the German industrial sector. “Donated energy goods have helped to restore energy supply for 1.4 million people to date. At the same time, we have been raising private investments for reconstruction,” Ms Reiche explained.
The ministry reports that the Ukraine Energy Support Fund has raised around 2.4 billion euros from donors around the world since the start of the war four and a half years ago. Germany is the biggest donor, having contributed 810 million euros to date.
Support efforts continue, also on the military level: mass production of over 5,000 long-distance combat drones has begun in the greater Munich area. The German-American defence company Auterion and its Ukrainian joint venture partner Airlogix have meanwhile reported that the first few drones have been manufactured. The Federal Government expects the order to be completed by mid-2027.
