Wiesbaden (dpa) – More and more foreign professional qualifications are being recognised in Germany. According to the Federal Statistical Office, the authorities approved 86,600 applications last year – almost 10 percent more than the year before. Growth slowed compared with 2024 and 2023, however, when the number of qualifications recognised rose by 21 and 25 percent respectively.

As in previous years, the largest number of qualifications recognised in 2025 came from Turkey (9,800), accounting for 11 percent of all recognitions. Around 8,300 qualifications from Ukraine were also recognised. Qualifications from Syria (6,100), India and Tunisia (5,400 each) were also well represented. The number of professional qualifications obtained in Syria rose particularly sharply, by 42 percent compared with the previous year.

As in the previous year, most of the qualifications recognised were in medical professions. Nursing professionals topped the list, with 32,000 qualifications recognised, followed by doctors (13,900) and engineers (4,600). These three professions accounted for more than half (58 percent) of all recognised professional qualifications.
