Jürgen Klopp confirmed as national trainer
Following the DFB’s World Cup defeat, Julian Nagelsmann’s successor has been named: first-choice candidate Jürgen Klopp has accepted the task to lead the national team back on the road to success.
Frankfurt/Main (.de/dpa) – Jürgen Klopp is going to be the new head coach of the German men’s national football team. The 59-year-old signed a four-year contract at the DFB Campus in Frankfurt am Main today, and will therefore be coaching the team at the 2028 European Championship as well as the 2030 World Cup. On 15 August 2026, Klopp will be taking over from Julian Nagelsmann who stepped down from his post as national trainer after the German national team’s defeat to Paraguay at this year’s World Cup.
“The national team can unite us Germans like almost nothing else can. That is precisely what makes this task so special to me,” the new national trainer said. “I am now looking forward to this special job in German football, which we will tackle together with humility and patience. We are going to develop a team that fights for one another, that enjoys playing football, and behind which the people of our country can rally with full conviction.”
Jürgen Klopp is among the world’s most highly esteemed football coaches. As the manager of Liverpool F.C. he won the 2019 Champions League as well as the 2020 Premiere League title, the first one for the Reds since 1990. Most recently, Jürgen Klopp held the role as Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull.
