Ms Parfil, what is “Make it in Germany”?
“Make it in Germany” is the official portal of the Federal Government for international skilled professionals and for people who would like to do a vocational training programme in Germany. It is also aimed at companies in Germany that can offer these people a job or a trainee position. The platform operates a job exchange in co-operation with the Federal Employment Agency. Employers publish job advertisements there that are specifically aimed at people living abroad. The website also contains a lot of information on subjects such as how to look for a job, training and the recognition of qualifications, but also about life in Germany, of course. All information is first-hand, reliable and up-to-date. It is compiled and reviewed in collaboration with the ministries responsible.

Which sectors are currently experiencing the greatest demand for skilled professionals in Germany?
There is a shortage of skilled professionals in numerous fields, including services, education and childcare. The classic bottleneck sectors remain IT, healthcare, engineering, construction, hospitality and catering. There are also good opportunities in the skilled trades – for plant mechanics, mechatronics technicians and metalworkers, for example.

Make it in Germany

What is your most important piece of advice for skilled professionals who want to come to Germany?
Be patient and don’t give up. There are lots of reasons why the process might take longer than expected. Just finding a job from abroad can take several months, not to mention the qualifications recognition process, visa application and so on. Another very important point is good language skills. The better your German, the more likely you are to land the right job in Germany.

Beware of dubious offers

Unfortunately, there are a lot of questionable offers out there on social media from agencies claiming to place international professionals. They often involve hidden costs and make unrealistic promises. “Make it in Germany” provides guidance to help you spot trustworthy providers.
