André Schulze – combining pixel art and painting

This painter from Dresden, who was born in 1988, adds a fascinating new dimension to old paintings with his art. He studied at the University of Fine Arts in his home city and now devotes his time to restoring and creatively redesigning works that he saves from being destroyed. His technique involves pixelating realistic and romantic paintings by hand, thereby bridging the gap between classical art and contemporary pixel art. He has 99,000 enthusiastic followers on Instagram (@andreschulzeart) and also uses the platform to sell his works.

Joana Schneider – from traditional knotting techniques to modern textile sculptures

Joana Schneider, born in 1990, is a German textile artist who lives in the Netherlands. She makes her installations and textile sculptures out of materials that are also used in traditional Dutch textile crafts. She bases her work on the knotting technique used in passementerie, which especially in the mid-19th century was how braids, fringes, cords, tassels and ropes were made. Her works have been exhibited worldwide, including in Amsterdam, Miami and Paris. They focus on the handicraft aspect and express the yearning for a pre-digital age. Her Instagram account (@joana.n.schneider) has 90,000 followers.

Simon Rohlen (KEF!) – canvas or Porsche

Born in 1989, the German street artist KEF! is from a village near Aachen and launched his career as a graffiti artist in London and Berlin. His line paintings, which feature patterns inspired by nature, are influenced by Paul Klee, among others. These days, his paintings are no longer to be seen only on the walls of buildings, but also in museums and on handbags. KEF! has even used his intricate line drawing technique to embellish a Porsche. More than 30,000 fans follow him on Instagram (@kefart).
