Street art in Berlin: 13 unmissable murals

The German capital is world famous for its large-scale graffiti artworks. We present a selection of the most exciting murals.

The German capital Berlin has always been a hub for national and international art and culture. We present important works that you don’t have to visit a museum to see:

Elephant with globe balloon – Jadore Tong. Jadore Tong, an artist living in Berlin, was inspired to paint his “Elephant with globe balloon” by an Indian ceremony: painted elephants are said to bring peace and joy (Wilhelmstrasse 7). © Josefine Köhn-Haskins

One Wall – Shepard Fairey (& D*Face). The US street artist Shepard Fairey became famous for his pseudo marketing campaign “Obey Giant”. Barack Obama commissioned Fairey to design his Hope poster for the 2018 election campaign (Bülowstrasse 32). © Josefine Köhn-Haskins
A Wise Man – Huariu
A Wise Man – Huariu. It’s only at a certain distance from the mural that the “Wise Man” sketched in black-and-white lines by the Portuguese street artist Huariu becomes clearly visible. It’s an appeal to become wise oneself and look at things very precisely (Wrangelstrasse 127).
A deep cut – XI DE SIGN
A deep cut – XI DE SIGN. Berlin-based artists Die Dixons, also known as XI DE SIGN, have eternalised a historical event in this mural at the Berlin Wall memorial site.
