How is Chemnitz faring as European Capital of Culture 2025? We take you with us on a video tour.

The half-way point for the European Capital of Culture 2025: the city of Chemnitz in the German state of Saxony is delighted at how successful the first half of the year has been. More than 1,000 events have taken place in Chemnitz and the surrounding region so far. Theatre performances, art exhibitions, concerts and dance events have already been enjoyed by more than 600,000 visitors from all over the world.
The “European Realities” exhibition at Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz, which continues until 10 August 2025, is particularly popular. By May 2025 alone, more than twice as many visitors as last year had come to the Kunstsammlungen. “Edvard Munch. Angst“ is another art highlight that will begin in mid-August 2025. In keeping with the Capital of Culture’s motto of “C the unseen”, the exhibition of the Norwegian artist will be shedding light on a world of emotion that often remains hidden.
Until the end of November 2025, Chemnitz will be presenting a wide-ranging programme as European Capital of Culture.
