Project description:

COASS is the first platform in Indonesia that used to help the dental student get the patients with the right cases, schedule and help to find the treatment funding. In Indonesia, 7 of 10 of Indonesian People have dental problems and triggered by relatively expensive treatment. Dental Problems are expensive disease treatment in Indonesia. Whereas, almost 30 million people in Indonesia are poverty. That's way, most of the Indonesian people treat their dental problems to illegal dental practitioners without the proper licenses and formal education. So, patients can’t get the high standard treatment quality and many of them being the victims.
In the other side, talking about the dental treatment we should take into account dental students. In 5th and 6th year, they are required to do mandatory treatments to obtain the dentist title. By caring our dental problem to dental students, patients could get affordable treatment cost, up to 80% cheaper than dentists, and high standard treatment quality because they are supervised directly by professional dentists. And this is a legal treatment because this is part of the educational system. However, 50% of dental students take a longer time to obtain the dentist title, because they have some problems to find right cases patients, the right schedule, besides the financial problem.

So, we have two big problems here, that are the lack of affordable dental treatment for poverty and dental student need patients to obtain the dentist title. But we can combine these two problems into a solution by developing the first platform in Indonesia to help dental students get the patients with the specific cases and help to find the treatment funding. COASS is the first win-win solution and innovation in Indonesia that connect them. So, by using COASS, dental students are easier to find patients and patients can get free treatment.

Goal and purpose of the project:

The DMF-T (Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth) Index of Indonesian people is 4.6. It means that every Indonesian people have 4 until 5 damage teeth. Dental problem is often ignored by people, even though this problem strongly related to the systemic disease such as heart disease, mouth cancer, diabetes, strokes, lung conditions, and many others. By checking our dental health, we can prevent many diseases such as HIV because HIV sign and symptom is shown through the mouth. In Indonesia, there are 8000 dental students. Every dental student should treat minimum 136 patients. So COASS can help 1,088,000 people every period. We hope people are conscious and able to get the dental treatment by maximizing the existence of dental student with connecting them and help to find the treatment funding. Our goal is supporting the 3rd of SDGs that is Good Health and Well Being. We believe that dental problem can be avoided through prevention, treatment, and education. Now, we have almost 171 dental students, more than 1700 patients, and almost 4 thousand cases in 9 cities. This is a good step because Indonesia has 32 faculties of dentistry. So imagine how many people we can help with this project. And the other side, we can solve the problem of dentist availability in Indonesia. Because by using our platform, the dental student can get the patient easily and they can obtain the dentist title faster.

Motivation of the applicant / applicant team:

COASS was founded because of our care about dental problems in Indonesia. Most of the Indonesian people can’t get dental treatment, because of expensive cost and the level of poverty in Indonesia reached 27.76 million people. Our target is COASS will be useful for social and economic development. And now, COASS is still growing and continuing. We still looking for the networking, funding, and collaboration. Our target is all of the Indonesian people are able to get dental treatments. So, the standard of health in Indonesia is better. And our target this project doesn't apply only in Indonesia, but also in other developing countries. So, we can make a big community who cares about dental health.

Use of prize money:

The main using of prize money is to help the treatment funding for patients. So, the dental student can treat the patients free. This is our main goal, people can be able to get a free dental treatment. This is can also engage our users in the first stage. Another side, the prize money is used to develop this project. First, In 1st year, we want to expand to another university in Indonesia from the total of 32 universities. And we want to continue to develop our product, so we can penetrate the market and cooperate with our key partners. Finally, we can help much more people.
