Project description:
The area of the proposed project is Village Noor Dolal of Union Council Kuri Dolal, Tehsil Gujar Khan and District Rawalpindi. UC Kuri Dolal starts from Rawalpindi Jehlum Road and its borders touches with Tehsil Kallar Sayedan. The village is located at a distance of about 30 kilometers from Islamabad and 10 kilometers from main GT road. It is one of the big villages of the UC, but is the most neglected village. Total population of the village is approximately 5,000 out of which 1,775 are children, 1,600 women and 1,625 men.
The village is located at the both sides of the road link road, which is the only road used for traveling by the local community. There is no health facility or service available in the village and people have to travel to RHC, which is almost 5 km from the village and located at Gujar Khan road. The people of the area faced great difficulty in commuting which was resolved with the financial assistance of Government of Japan.
NGO, through already established vocational training center is providing vocational training to women of the area since 2005 and upgraded by TVO in 2012. Since its inception NGO has been able to provide vocational training to more than 300 women. NGO has already established a sale point in the main market of Gujar Khan where NGO is providing school uniforms at subsidized rates. The same sale point will be used to sale the products being produced at the garment center. Moreover, keeping in view the market trends NGO will establish more sale points for the easy access of communities to the quality products at low rates.
The area is deprived of gas facility and due to non availability of other proper source of energy for cooking people are using wood trees for daily cookings. This is the main factor of depletion of tress in the ares. The proposed project is designed keeping in view the environmental degradation in the area.
Goal and purpose of the project:
The goal and purpose of the project to reduce the tree cutting through provision of 100 Solar Stoves, to protect environmental degradation and to reduce the work load on women of collection of woods for cooking resulting better health of women.
Motivation of the applicant / applicant team:
The applicant organization got motivation from the situation of the target area where the cutting of trees are increasing due to non availability of other options for cooking at the household level.
The applicant team worked on this and tried to resolve this by alternate solutions and focused on the provision of solar stoves as alternate for the cooking of food.
The applicant working on this has been able to provide solar stoves to 100 households through financial assistance of Embassy of Republic of Germany.
Use of prize money:
The Prize money will be used to supply more solar stoves to the community to further reduce the cutting of precious trees for the generations to come.
