Ambassadors’ conference in Berlin
At the conference of the heads of the German missions abroad at the Federal Foreign Office, participants are discussing the future of foreign policy.
Berlin (d.de) – “Getting Europe fit to facer the challenges of the future” – this is the motto of a meeting between the heads of the more than 220 German representations abroad which is being held at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin until Thursday. Over a total of four conference days, the gathering offers the opportunity to discuss the priorities of German foreign and security policy and Germany's role in a changing world. In addition to Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine and the crisis in the Middle East, discussions will focus on such issues as climate action and strengthening European competitiveness.
“We must not shrink away from these challenges. We must stand up for our values and our interests. Otherwise we will be leaving things in the hand of those who seek to destroy our values and our interests, too. That is why we must act resolutely, strategically and in partnership,” said Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock in a speech. Her Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar also attended the second day of the conference as a guest of honour.
