Dobrindt: rapid-response task force for the Baltic Sea region
Drones and the Russian shadow fleet: at a conference in Flensburg, Interior Minister Dobrindt and his partners discussed security strategies for the Baltic Sea.
Flensburg (dpa) – Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt wants to set up a rapid-response task force to counter hybrid threats in the Baltic Sea region. He discussed the proposal with his counterparts from the Baltic Sea states at a conference in Flensburg yesterday.
“We want to turn this shared threat environment into a shared security environment,” Dobrindt said. “Hybrid scenarios are becoming more frequent and more severe, and they’re everywhere.”
The threats were in the air and in the water, he said, but they also extended to cyberspace and critical infrastructure. He expects hybrid attacks to continue to increase in both frequency and sophistication.
Referring to the drone incident at Leipzig Airport, the Interior Minister said that responses and measure, including those relating to past attacks, required support from partner countries, adding that it was important to enable countries to share their capabilities.
Representatives of the interior ministries of the Baltic Sea states and Ireland attended the conference at the Naval Academy in Flensburg.
