Farewell visit: Scholz to meet Tusk
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz is travelling to Warsaw today to meet Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Merz previously announced a visit of his own.

Berlin (dpa) – The outgoing Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz is travelling to neighbouring Poland today for a farewell visit. A lunch with Prime Minister Donald Tusk is planned in the capital, Warsaw, where German-Polish relations and European and international issues will be discussed, according to official information.
Scholz is expected to hand over official duties to CDU leader Friedrich Merz on 6 May. Prior to the federal elections, the latter announced that he intended to travel to Poland and France on the first day of his term as Federal Chancellor. His is looking to put German-Polish relations on a new footing by concluding a friendship treaty. According to Merz, this treaty is to be concluded on 17 June 2026, the 35th anniversary of the signing of the German–Polish Treaty on Good Neighbourliness of 1991.
