Germany is seeking to deepen its partnership with Canada
Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil is promoting closer cooperation with Canada in Toronto – in such areas as raw materials, defence and artificial intelligence.
Toronto (dpa, d.de) – In light of the economic consequences of the Iran conflict and the role of the USA, German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil is seeking an even closer partnership with Canada, saying at a meeting with his Canadian counterpart François-Philippe Champagne in Toronto that the aim was to reduce dependencies and strengthen Europe’s resilience and sovereignty. “And Canada is an ideal partner for that.”
Topics of the two-day visit include deeper cooperation in areas such as the supply of critical raw materials, defence and artificial intelligence. The ministers paid a joint visit to a plant operated by aircraft manufacturer Bombardier. Klingbeil is looking to encourage Canadian companies to invest. He said Germany was an innovative business location that was now becoming even more attractive through investment incentives and reforms.
