Research institutes double growth forecast for Germany

Berlin (dpa/d.de) – Growth of the German economy could be considerably more pronounced than previously expected. This is assumed by some of the leading research institutes, including the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW), whose growth figure of 1.3 percent forecast this autumn for the current year is twice as high as previous estimates. The performance of Germany’s economy observed in the first half of 2026 has been much stronger than expected back in spring. A surprising level of growth was recorded in the areas of export and value creation in the manufacturing industries in particular. The sturdy global economy and the worldwide AI boom are among the aspects contributing to this development. For the next two years, the economic research institutes expect gross domestic product to increase by 1.1 and 0.4 percent, respectively.
