Significant surge in German electronics exports
The German electronics industry stepped up its exports considerably in July. Growth was driven particularly by business with the EU.
Frankfurt/Main (dpa) - The second half year began with a surge in exports for Germany’s electronics and digital industry. The sector exported goods worth 23.5 billion euros in July - a year-on-year increase of 11.9 percent. After an already buoyant first six months, the pace of growth was “even increased somewhat further on balance”, said industry association ZVEI’s chief economist Andreas Gontermann.
From January to the end of July 2026, exports totalled 162.9 billion euros - an increase of 9.7 percent compared to the same period last year.
Nearly 90 percent of the export growth is attributable to trade with European Union countries. Goods worth 90.1 billion euros - 17 percent more than a year earlier - were shipped to EU countries in the first seven months of the year.
Business with many non-EU countries has also been solid of late. For example, exports to the US - the most important market abroad - saw double-digit growth in July despite tariff barriers. At 2.7 billion euros, electronics exports to the United States were nearly a quarter (23.3 percent) above the level recorded in the same month last year.
