Start of Gamescom 2026 in Cologne
The international gaming scene is meeting in Cologne for five days. Renowned developers are presenting their latest projects at Gamescom, as well as giving an insight into upcoming games.
Cologne (d.de) – The world’s biggest trade fair for computer and video games is starting today with a trade visitor day. From Thursday onwards, the trade fair will be open to the general public, too. More than 1,600 companies are represented at the trade fair, according to the organisers, more than ever before. Visitors have the opportunity to try new games, test state-of-the-art hardware and experience the flair of the international gaming community until Sunday. The industry is very important from an economic perspective: according to the industry association Game, a total turnover of around 4.2 billion euros was realised with games, hardware and related services in Germany in the first half of 2026. Federal Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil promised further state subsidies for the industry. He said that it was important to continue to promote good local conditions for the gaming industry and the digital economy. 120 million euros in funding each are to be made available for this purpose this year and next.
