Tesla plans to expand in Germany
Demand for electric cars has been on the rise. The automotive manufacturer Tesla therefore plans to invest in its plant in Grünheide near Berlin, and to create 3,500 new jobs.
Grünheide (dpa/d.de) – The US electric car manufacturer Tesla plans to rapidly expand its production activities at the German plant in Grünheide near Berlin, thanks to rising demand and profits. “The corporation has been forecasting a significant year-on-year increase in production volume for the 2026 business year,” Tesla’s annual report reads.
More than 30 markets were currently being supplied from Grünheide, and there were plans to expand into additional ones and to increase capacity utilisation accordingly, it says in the report. Planning provides for production in Grünheide to be increased to up to 7,500 vehicles per week (375,000 vehicles per year), as well as to further develop battery cell manufacturing. A total of 3,500 new jobs are to be created.
Tesla aims to pool its entire value chain, from the battery cell through to the finished vehicle. It is stated in the report that this is “unique in Europe in this form”. Up to this point, a further expansion of the plant had been linked to the question of how the markets were going to develop. Realisation of the full battery value chain in Grünheide remained subject to general economic conditions, as cell production in Europe was associated with some major challenges compared to production in the US or China, the report says.
At the end of 2025, the Tesla plant in Grünheide had a workforce of around 11,000, including temporary workers. The factory is Brandenburg’s biggest industrial company.
