Roughly 522,000 young men and women in Germany began a vocational training programme in 2015. In other words, over half of each year group continues to opt for an apprenticeship in one of the 300 recognised occupations. The chances of finding an attractive place have increased: according to the 2016 Vocational Training Report, there are roughly 104 apprenticeships for 100 school-leavers, more than there have been for 20 years. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has launched an information campaign called “Du + Deine Ausbildung = Praktisch unschlagbar!” to strengthen the vocational training system. It draws attention to the
opportunities of vocational education.
