Germany won the final of the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil against Argentina 1:0. Mario Götze scored the deciding goal in extra time. For Germany, it is the fourth time they have won the World Cup following 1954, 1974 and 1990.
Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and Federal President Joachim Gauck were in the stadium in Rio de Janeiro specially to follow the match. German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who together with the Argentine ambassador to Germany, Daniel Adan Dziewezo Polski, watched the final in Berlin’s “Haus der Kulturen der Welt”, congratulated the team and thanked the Brazilian hosts. The “World champions” are expected back in Berlin on Tuesday.
