Berlin (dpa) – Deutsche Welle’s Freedom of Speech Award goes to Kremlin opponent Yulia Navalnaya. Besides the widow of the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, the Anti-Corruption Foundation he established will also be honoured with the Freedom of Speech Award, announced Germany’s international public broadcaster. According to a statement, Navalnaya has supported her husband’s political work in the fight for freedom of the press and freedom of expression in Russia from the very beginning – “despite all the risks, constant threats and personal restrictions.” The prize will be awarded in Berlin on 5 June.
