BSW: A young party with left-wing roots
The BSW emerged in 2024 following a split from the party Die Linke and combines left-wing economic policies with a right-wing stance on social policy.

Profile: The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance BSW was founded by former Die Linke parliamentary group leader Wagenknecht in early 2024. The ten members of parliament of the later BSW Group in the 20th Bundestag had been elected for Die Linke in 2021. They left the party in October 2023 and were recognised in February 2024 as the BSW Group. The BSW has not been represented in the Bundestag since the 2025 Bundestag election, though the party does have seats in several of the state-level parliaments in eastern Germany. The BSW combines left-wing economic and socialist populist leanings with a partly right-wing conservative stance that is critical of migration; it opposes weapons exports.
