Beijing (dpa) - China and the EU have announced their intention to accelerate negotiations on the proposed Investment Agreement. The official news agency Xinhua reported on the virtual EU-China Summit with Chancellor Angela Merkel as acting EU Council President and China's leader and party leader Xi Jinping.

The agreement has been under negotiation since 2014. According to European sources, there is still a huge gap between the two sides, as China in particular has to move and allow much more market opening than previously envisaged. Both sides also agreed to establish high-level dialogue mechanisms on climate and environment and digital issues to strengthen their partnership, Xinhua reported.
