Berlin (d.de/dpa) - Deutsche Telekom and US accelerated computing specialist Nvidia are to build a joint artificial intelligence (AI) data centre in Munich. The project is estimated to cost billions and will be officially unveiled today, Tuesday – together with German companies SAP and Deutsche Bank. Karsten Wildberger, Federal Minister for Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation, and Federal Minister of Research, Technology and Space Dorothee Bär are to give welcoming speeches.

This project aims to develop a European AI infrastructure for industrial applications. An “Industrial AI Cloud” based on more than 10,000 high-performance processors is to be launched as early as 2026. Deutsche Telekom is assuming responsibility for the infrastructure, operation and security solutions, and is to ensure that data are processed to European standards. The undertaking is intended to strengthen Germany’s reputation as the location for industry and Europe’s technological sovereignty in the AI era.

Deutsche Telekom and Nvidia had already announced the building of an “Industrial AI Cloud” in June 2025. “Every manufacturer needs two factories in the era of AI: one for producing artefacts and one for generating the intelligence that drives them”, said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia, in June. “Building Europe’s first industrial AI infrastructure means we’re enabling the region’s leading industrial companies to advance simulation-driven, AI-controlled manufacturing”, Huang added.
