Berlin (dpa) - Despite the very hot weather and a severe storm in the middle of the day, thousands of people flocked to the Federal Government’s Open Day in Berlin. The government registered over 80,000 visitors at the weekend. The Federal Chancellery was one of the most popular attractions. Visitors had the chance there to chat to Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Head of the Federal Chancellery Thorsten Frei.

Other senior politicians who turned out to meet and greet visitors included Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul and Labour Minister Bärbel Bas.

Visitors were free to explore ministries, discuss issues with members of the government and take a look inside a Federal Police helicopter.

The Federal Government regularly opens its buildings to the public. The aim is to give ordinary people insights into the work of the government and its departments.
