German women's football team reaches Euro semi-finals
Germany has reached the Euro 2025 semi-finals, having beaten France 6-5 in a penalty shootout.

Basel (dpa) - The German women's football team has advanced to the Euro 2025 semi-finals in Switzerland. Coach Christian Wück's team won 6-5 on penalties against France despite an early red card for Kathrin Hendrich.
After 120 minutes, the score was 1-1. Grace Geyoro converted a penalty for the French team in the 15th minute. Sjoeke Nüsken scored the equaliser in the 25th minute to make it 1-1. The German team had to battle its way through almost the entire game one player down after Kathrin Hendrich was shown a red card after a foul in the 13th minute . In the penalty shootout, Ann-Katrin Berger, Janina Minge, Linda Dallmann, Rebecca Knaak, Klara Bühl and Sjoeke Nüsken all converted for Germany. Goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger saved against Amel Majri and Alice Sombath.
In Wednesday’s semi-finals in Zurich, the eight-time German champions will face world champions Spain in the next clash of the titans. "We have shown that we are ready for and capable of great things," said footballer Janina Minge.
