Berlin (dpa) – Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz believes that the aviation industry has a key role to play and wants to ensure that Germany continues to be a leading aviation nation. “Our aviation and aerospace industry does not only secure innovation and economic strength, it also secures our sovereignty and our national and Alliance defence capability,” said Merz at the ILA Berlin Air Show. The Federal Cabinet just adopted a new aviation strategy.

It is stipulated in the strategy that “the Federal Government aims to pave the way for ensuring that Germany will remain a leading aviation nation with support from its European partners, also over the next 15 years, and will secure lasting long-term success”. The aviation industry is described as a global long-term growth market.

Around 750 exhibitors from 37 countries are taking part in this year’s ILA on the edge of BER airport in Germany’s capital region. Until Friday, access is exclusively reserved for trade visitors, while interested members of the public can visit the fair on Saturday and Sunday.
