Great opportunities for German films in Locarno
20 German productions and co-productions will be shown at the film festival in Locarno. Five of them will be vying for the Golden Leopard in the main competition.
Berlin (dpa) – More films from Germany will be presented at the 79th Locarno Film Festival (5 to 15 August) than from almost any other European film nation. In all, 20 German productions and co-productions will feature on the programme of the renowned Swiss festival - five of them will be vying for the Golden Leopard in the international competition.
The competition entries include “Objet a” from Ann Oren starring Aenne Schwarz and Louis Hofmann, and “I Rarely Wake Up Dreaming”, a German-Ukrainian co-production directed by Isabelle Stever. Germany is also represented by several productions in the emerging directors section “Cineasti del Presente”.
In total, 233 films from all over the world will be screened at the festival. With nearly 8,000 submissions, Locarno has chalked up a new record this year. The winners will be announced on 15 August.
