Wiesbaden (d.de) – Many young people in Germany are beginning a course of vocational training today. More and more of them have a migrant background. The number of new dual vocational training contracts concluded in Germany declined slightly in 2024.

As the Federal Statistical Office reports, a total of around 475,100 new training contracts were concluded in 2024 - one percent down on the previous year. The number of new contracts concluded by German trainees dropped by four percent, while the number of trainees with non-German citizenship rose by 17 percent. Compared with ten years ago, the number of foreign trainees with new contracts has even nearly doubled.

Trainees of Vietnamese, Syrian or Ukrainian nationality were particularly often among those who concluded new training contracts.

The occupation most commonly chosen by women is that of medical assistant, closely followed by office management assistant and dental assistant.

The number one choice for men remains the job of vehicle mechatronics technician. This is followed in second and third place respectively by IT specialist and electronics technician.
