Munich enters race to host Olympic Games

Baden-Baden (dpa) – Germany is entering the international race to host the Olympic Games with Munich. “The winner is Munich,” Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier announced at the extraordinary general meeting of the German Olympic Sports Confederation in Baden-Baden. Bavaria’s capital city was selected well ahead of Cologne-Rhine-Ruhr. “We are overjoyed,” said the Mayor of Munich, Dominik Krause. 

Planning provides for the initial preselection for the 2036 summer Olympics to be completed in March 2027. The next phase of strategic negotiations would then last until the end of 2028, after which only the most promising candidates will continue to compete up to the meeting in mid-2029 where the International Olympic Committee will be making its final decision.
