Chongqing (dpa) – Following the Iranian airstrikes against Israel, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz has warned against “any further escalation”. “We must not continue down this path,” said Scholz in Chongqing during his trip to China. “We will do everything we can to ensure there is no further escalation.” Scholz once again strongly condemned the Iranian attack: “This is an unjustifiable attack – a serious escalation of the situation.” The attack was in no way acceptable, understandable or tolerable, said the Federal Chancellor. “We can only warn everyone – especially Iran – not to go on in this way,” said Scholz. He again emphasised Germany’s solidarity with Israel, which he said had every right to defend itself after the terrorist attack by Hamas on 7 October.
