One new set of statistics, two new records: the current “Open Doors” report from the Institute of International Education has revealed some remarkable statistics relating to German-American academic exchange. For the academic year 2014/15 the report counted 10,193 students from Germany who travelled to the USA for a semester, an internship, a summer school or a language course. This once again set a new record, beating last year’s figure of 10,160. For 2013/14, the most recent academic year for which the “Open Doors” report provides figures for American students visiting Germany, another record was set: the number of Americans who came to Germany for study purposes rose by 9% on the year to reach 10,377.
