Reading for refugee children
More than words: Lesestart für Flüchtlingskinder is a reading project for refugee children.

Reading and reading aloud, telling stories and experiencing the German language are important aids to integration for refugee families. This is why the Stiftung Lesen started a three-year programme entitled Lesestart für Flüchtlingskinder. It was commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research to encourage refugee children and their parents in reception centres around the country to read aloud and read to themselves. Suitable books for children and information material for parents are supplied, as are media packs containing, for example, illustrated dictionaries, audio CDs and teaching material. Reading mentors are also involved in the project on an voluntary basis.
