The huge importance of seas and oceans is the focus of the new BMBF Science Year.
Despite being our planet’s largest habitat, we know hardly anything about them: oceans cover around 70% of the Earth. One in three of us uses the seas as a source of food. The huge importance of seas and oceans is the focus of the new Science Year, an initiative of Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The Seas and Oceans Science Year will begin in mid-2016 and end in 2017. In the course of numerous events, discussions, exhibitions and competitions, people in Germany will have a chance to find out more about the seas and oceans and how to protect them.
