Top marks for innovation
Government, industry and the research sector invested nearly 84 billion euros on research and development (R&D) in 2014.

Containing 800 pages and weighing in at 2,700 grams, the 2016 Federal Report on Research and Innovation sets a new record for its size alone. Inside, you will find numerous superlatives too. For example, more money is being spent on innovation in Germany than ever before: government, industry and the research sector invested nearly 84 billion euros on research and development (R&D) in 2014. The report, which is published by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), also takes a closer look at the number of R&D jobs: in all, for the first time, over 600,000 people are working in R&D in Germany.
