German-Turkish Year of Science
To mark the jubilee of their scientific relations Turkey and Germany are setting priorities

Tradition with a future. In 2014 Turkey and Germany will celebrate 30 years of scientific relations – and will look to the future. On 23 January the “German-Turkish Year of Research, Education and Innovation” will open in Berlin. These bilateral years of science also have a certain tradition; Germany has already organised one, among others, with China, Israel and South Africa. The focal points of the German-Turkish Year of Science are the fields of “key technologies” (for example, health research, including biotechnology and production technologies), “global change” (for example, renewable energies and climate protection) as well as “human and social sciences and societal challenges” (for example, demography and diversity).
