The German Pavilion at Expo Milano 2015

During the day, "Solar Trees" collect the energy they need for the lighting at night. A piece of corrugated cardboard functions like a tablet. Interacting with cameras, video projectors and innovative software, the so-called SeedBoard becomes an interactive guide for visitors. Germany is using high tech to interpret the Nutrition theme at Expo Milano 2015. The world exposition in Milan opened on 1 May.
The people flood into Germany's futuristic pavilion via a wooden ramp. It is made of different kinds of wood that are native to Germany, generating a wide range of shades and colours and reflecting German's typical field and farm landscape. The steel-and-membrane structure is entitled Fields of Ideas and offers six sections with a hundred theme stations on the world exposition's theme: "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life". The first four sections – Soil, Water, Climate and Biodiversity – use multimedia to make the visitors more aware of the forces of nature, the primal source of nutrition. The other two sections – Foodstuffs, and My Garden of Ideas – deal with the worlds of consumption and production. The visitors become actively involved at the interactive stations. And a special highlight awaits them at the end of their walk through the exhibition: they see Germany through the eyes of bees, and together they fly across the land.
You can taste the Expo theme
The exhibition is framed by an extensive cultural programme. And, of course, you can also taste the Expo theme. A family restaurant in the typical German tavern style serves German classics like bratwurst (fried sausage) with potato salad, as well as dishes from each of the 16 states – including sauerbraten (marinated beef) from the Rhineland, shrimps from the North Sea, and Bavarian weisswurst (veal sausage). In the gourmet restaurant "Symphony", top German chefs treat their guests to the very best of German cuisine.
