Close dialogue with Namibia
The Federal Government has appointed Ruprecht Polenz as Special Envoy for German-Namibian relations.
In early November 2015 the Federal Government sent out a clear message: it appointed Ruprecht Polenz, the long-term Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Bundestag, as the first Special Envoy for German-Namibian relations. In 2015 the German and the Namibian governments began talks on a joint appraisal of the colonial era. “Our aim is to undertake a joint evaluation of the past through further talks with the Namibian government and on this basis to identify ways of developing ideas for shaping bilateral relations,” said Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
