Project description:

It is a known fact that a good education can help one escape poverty.
Sadly, on the Cape Flats and in South Africa in general , most Township Early Learning Centres are under resourced and overcrowded
 

Furthermore:

• 60% of children under the age of 4 do not have access to any form of ECD programs
• 66% of the population, under the age of 35, are unemployed

Our Solution: The Angel Classroom on Wheels : Winner-Swarm Vision's '' Future of Education '' campaign
After winning ,we worked with Cherry Howell ,an early education practitioner(P.T.D ; DSE (RE) ; N.I.L.D (Post Graduate) ,adding more educational value to the unit.

The Unit is a central point from which the Educator delivers lessons (Something vital in overcrowded Edu-Cares)
It supports THREE main learning areas

• Numeracy - Provides a built in abacus for counting and sequencing patterns + charts ,aids , for developing sound and number conception
• Literacy - Letters are used to consolidate spelling of words learnt in life skills lessons, and flashcards (Colours , Shapes and Transport )
• Life -Skills - The most popular teaching aids are the puppets ,which encourage communication skills ,and can be used in the puppet theatre by Educators and the learners..

It also provides activities which develop FINE MOTOR SKILLS -MOVEMENT & BALANCE , SPATIAL DEVELOPMENT

Goal and purpose of the project:

Studies have shown that early readers continue to get higher grades than their peers through grade school. Reading imparts a love of learning and later academic success
We want to gift an Angel Classroom on Wheels to 50 impoverished schools in 2017/2018
The Social Impact is two -fold

1. Under resourced Early learning Centres will receive an award winning tool that inspire and enable the next generation of leaders and problem solvers.
2. More jobs will be created at local Social Enterprise ,Hands of Honour

Motivation of the applicant / applicant team:

Growing up in the poorer parts of Cape Town ,ravaged by unemployment .drugs and gangs ,I have seen how talented youth are caught up into these social ills for a lack of an education.
A lack of a good early learning program can ‘’rob ‘’ a child of a good or even brilliant future. I want to give every child ,regardless of their circumstances, a fair chance to succeed in life ,while also creating employment for marginalized individuals through manufacturing our Angel Classroom on Wheels

Use of prize money:

So far ,we have already distributed Angel Classroom on Wheels educational hubs to 55 desperately poor children's centres in Cape Town during 2016/2017.
We would like to manufacture and distribute another 50 Angel Classroom on Wheels units at local Social Enterprise ,Hands of Honour ,to be distributed to 50 under resourced Township and rural Early learning Centres
